This hospital used to be the teaching hospital for University of Ilorin for a very long time before the The University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital was completed. Sequel to the relocation of the Teaching Hospital the State Government took back the premises and converted it to a General Hospital. Unlike the teaching hospital that is on the outskirts the General Hospital is in the centre of the town.
